Tank Safety Advisory
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) announced possible dangers with certain improperly tested SCUBA tanks and other compressed gas cylinders.  RSPA determined that Underwater Adventures in Leesburg, Florida, certified cylinders as being properly tested in accordance with Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations, even though the cylinders were improperly tested. Underwater Adventures also marked cylinders with a Retester Identification Number (RIN) that belongs to another company.  These cylinders may pose a safety risk to the public.  Serious personal injury, death or property damage could result from rupture of a cylinder.  The cylinders are stamped with one of the following RINs: B059 or B095. The markings appear in the following patterns (M is month of retest, Y is year of retest):
   B 0                   B 0
M     Y             M     Y
   5 9                    9 5
If you have a cylinder that has been serviced by Underwater Adventures and is marked with the RIN numbers B059 or B095 and stamped with a retest date after 1986 should consider the cylinder unsafe.  Do not use the cylinder unless it is properly retested by a DOT-authorized retest facility.
